There is a lot of myth and mystery and rumor but not a lot of accurate info.īottom line - if you want to know for sure then you have to open it up and find an expert to look at it.īTW - famous dumble players: Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Carlos Santana, David Lindly, SRV. I'm not making any accusation here but only that I'm a huge fan of dumble amps and I can tell you there is not a lot of accurate info out there. Either way, you still need to de-goup it to make a 98% positive identification. Although, I'm not sure exactly when he started gouping his boards. If you open it up and there is a thick "goup" covering the boards then it's looking like it may be a real dumble. His face plate/type of letters changed over the years but any clone builder knows this too. Sure reading the name on the face plate is part of making the determination and also the chassis could give a clue as to the date. However they only way to know if it is a real dumble is to open up the chassis and look inside at the circuit and type of parts used. I appologize to anybody I have offended, from now on, I'll keep what's going on in my life to myself. I came here to let everyone know what's going on with this. I didn't come here looking for sympathy, I know where it's at, it's between shit and syphillis in the dictonary. I'm not in a real good mood, as you can tell. He was literally giving all his stuff away, because he is gonna be dead in a few months.Īnd learn some math.the deal was 100 bucks down, $400 balance.that's $500. and after thinking all of this over, I came to see what was going on. and I thought this would be the place to find it. I have been playing guitar for many years, and I have heard, vaguely mind you, of Dumble amps, I have never seen one 'till the other day when he said he had an old amp stashed. As for posting pictures, I have not posted any pics in any of my posts for the simple reason I have no camera, and if I did, my dumbass don't know how to post them. When I originaly posted this, I was under the impression that he was selling all of his shit and haulin' ass to Alabama, I didn't know he was dieing at the time, I only found out about his having cancer this morning. Please spare us the affected wounded innocence, and put up or shut up. If the answer had been "its worth $50", were you intending welch on your dear friend? Just by the way, given that "I need to know, before I finish paying for it ($100 deposit to hold it, $400 balance), just what is it?:" at that point, you had entered an enforcable contract with the seller to buy. Your story may or may not be true, it doesnt matter really, but if its true, given the level of interest in YOUR thread about YOUR acquisiton from YOUR friend the Old Dude, and the fact that YOUR credibility is at stake, I am surprised you didnt avail yourself of the opportunity to take at least one picture of said Dumble. This thread is entirely of your making, based on YOUR explanation of the circumstances. I consider him a really close friend I mean, like family. Can I refer you to your first post where you alluded to none of this and only to the fact that you had an opportunity to buy a Dumble for $400 from "Old dude (like, 78 yrs old) is selling everything out of his house and moving to Alambama, sez he needs the $$." Right.Įverybody loses friends Mr #1Guitarman, its a fact of life. I think it might have something to do with the really warm relationship we both have. “ told me he’d got the idea to build the Overdrive Special from listening to me play through a ’60s piggyback Fender Bassman and cabinet,” Ford told Reverb in a 2017 interview. Robben Ford explained in an interview once that he would rent one whenever possible for his performances – later learning that it was he, himself who inadvertently inspired Dumble to create the amplifier. The Overdrive Special, a two-channel valve amplifier, would gain particular renown. The new price spread for Dumble style amps (from different builders) is something like 7000 or more. Concerned with achieving the best results possible with his creations, the builder slowly gained a reputation within the guitar community for his extremely high-end builds. And whether from Germino, or Metropoulos, or a number of other companies, the New Price ranges seems to be somewhere between lower 2000s to around 3500 or so. A post shared by Dumble Amps was one of the most celebrated builders in the world of guitar amplification, having built custom amplifiers for the likes of Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robben Ford, John Mayer and many others.īefore he was 21, Dumble began modding Fender amplifiers at home.
